BREAST AND BODY

PROCEDURES

MALE BREAST SURGERY

What is Male Breast Surgery?
Gynaecomastia Surgery, commonly known as Male Breast Surgery, is the surgical correction of over-developed breasts in men. The condition may be caused by hormonal changes, obesity, or the use of certain drugs. Gynaecomastia can appear as a rubbery or firm mass that starts from underneath the nipple and then spreads outwards over the breast area. It usually affects both breasts but often in different amounts so asymmetry occurs. Gynaecomastia Surgery can improve the appearance, shape and contour of the chest and can result in improved social confidence, a flatter, firmer chest and a better body image.

How is the surgery performed?

There are various techniques used for Gynaecomastia correction, including liposuction and mastectomy. The choice of technique is based on your body and the severity of the Gynaecomastia – it can be decided on at your consultation.

What can I expect?
The surgery is done under general anaesthesia and one night in hospital is required with recovery time usually taking two weeks.

BREAST AUGMENTATION

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast Augmentation (or Augmentation Mammoplasty) is a surgical procedure in which breast implants are placed beneath your normal breast tissue or beneath the pectoral muscle to increase your breast size and give you fuller breasts. Breast Augmentation Surgery can have a positive effect on self-image and self-confidence, making it one of the most popular cosmetic procedures offered.

What can I expect?

Breast Augmentation Surgery can be done under conscious sedation or general anaesthesia. The surgery takes about an hour and you may not need time in hospital at all. Recovery is typically one to two weeks.

BREAST REDUCTION

What is Breast Reduction?

A breast reduction (or Reduction Mammoplasty) is a surgical procedure to reduce the size of the breasts.

Is it right for me?

Chronic neck, shoulder and back pain or other symptoms such as rashes, skin grooves, poor posture, chest pain, numbness, sleep disturbances and even headaches can be a cause of concern for women with excessively large breasts. The surgery results in a breast size that’s perfectly proportioned to the rest of your body and is well known to help alleviate the symptoms associated with excessively large breasts.

How is the surgery performed?

A breast reduction is performed under general anaesthetia and takes about one to two hours per breast.

What can I expect?

Recovery usually takes about two weeks and you may have to spend one night in hospital after the surgery. After care will be explained to you during your consultation.

BREAST LIFT

What is Mastopexy?

Traditionally known as a Breast Lift, Mastopexy a surgical treatment to lift the breasts after weight fluctuations and breastfeeding, or as a result of ageing – to give you contoured, firmer, more shapely breasts. The breast is raised, excess skin is removed and the surrounding tissue is tightened to reshape and support the new contour of your breast.

Breast Lift Surgery can also be combined with Breast Augmentation or Breast Reduction Surgery if you’d like a change in your breast size.

What can I expect?

Mastopexy Surgery takes 2 to 2½ hours and is performed under general anaesthesia. One overnight hospital stay is required and recovery typically takes two weeks.

TUMMY TUCK

What is Abdominoplasty?

Excessive or stretched skin and fatty tissue after pregnancy or weight loss may be difficult to shake simply with diet and exercise. Commonly known as the ‘tummy tuck’, Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure option should you wish to improve the appearance of your tummy. Abdominoplasty can address this problem, helping to give you a flatter, firmer and smoother tummy.

What can I expect?

Excess skin and fat are removed from the lower abdomen and the abdominal muscles are tightened. Liposuction may be combined with Abdominoplasty for an improved abdominal contour.

How is the surgery performed?

An Abdominoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia.

What can I expect?
A hospital stay of two to three days may be required. Recovery takes roughly three to four weeks.

LABIAPLASTY

What is Labiaplasty?

The prominent appearance of the labia minora (the smaller inner folds of the vulva) may be of aesthetic or functional concern to some women. Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to reshape, rejuvenate and reduce the size of the labia minora to result in an improved appearance that you’re happy with.

What can I expect?

Surgery takes 60 to 90 minutes and can be done under local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia. Recovery takes 14 days. Abstinence is recommended for six weeks following the surgery to ensure proper, full recovery.

LIPOSUCTION

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure to remove stubborn, diet-resistant fatty tissue. Areas that can be treated include thighs, hips and buttocks, the abdomen and waist, upper arms, back, inner knee, chest, chin and neck. Liposuction is an excellent procedure for slimming and shaping of tough fatty deposits, resulting in a body contour that looks smoother and increased confidence. It can be done as a sole procedure or in combination with other procedures such as facial surgery, abdominoplasty and breast surgery.

Is it right for me?

If you’ve tried and failed to get rid of unwanted fat in areas such as the lower abdomen and hips, liposuction may be the effective solution you’re looking for.

How is the surgery performed?

Liposuction can be done under general anaesthetic, or local anaesthetic with or without sedation, depending on the volume of liposuction planned.

What can I expect?
One night in hospital may be required in larger volumes of liposuction. Recovery takes two weeks, but bruising and swelling may take a little longer to completely heal.

Please note: Liposuction is not effective in treating cellulite and is not a substitute for weight loss.
