What is a Rhytidectomy?

The visible signs of ageing occur for a number of reasons: heredity, gravity, environmental damage such as the sun’s harmful rays, as well as stress. Rhytidectomy is a surgical procedure to rejuvenate the appearance of the face and help give you a more youthful look for longer. It may be combined with other procedures such as eyelid surgery, brow lifts, facial lipofilling, liposuction and earlobe reduction to help you look several years younger.

How is the surgery performed?

Surgery takes four hours and is performed under general anaesthetic.

What can I expect?
One night in hospital is recommended. Recovery takes two weeks, but bruising and swelling may persist a little longer.

RHINOPLASTY

What is Rhinoplasty?

The nose is one of the most important body parts responsible for breathing and your sense of smell. Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) is a surgical procedure to help enhance both the appearance and purpose of the nose.

What can I expect?

Open Rhinoplasty is Dr. Conrad’s preferred approach to restore form and function since it leaves a barely detectable scar and allows the ideal view of the nose structures to offer ultimate correction. Rhinoplasty aims to correct breathing problems and improve facial harmony, in turn helping to improve self-confidence and a better outlook on life.

How is the surgery performed?

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia. Surgery takes four hours and one-night hospital stay is required. A nasal splint is usually required for one to two weeks.

EAR MOULDING & OTOPLASTY

What is Ear Moulding?
Ear moulding is usually performed on infants. In the first six weeks after birth, ear cartilage is very soft and malleable which allows for treatment of ear malformations such as prominent ears, lop ear or cup ear (the edge of the ear folds down or the rim of the upper ear is folded) and Stahl’s ear (pointing of the ears). Ear shaping is a non-invasive, non-painful alternative to surgery and makes use of the EarWell™ external ear conformer - allowing perfectly pain-free reshaping of your baby’s ears to restore or enhance the appearance of one, or both ears.

What can I expect?

An ear-shaped silicone mould is attached to the ear to encourage your baby’s ear or ears to grow into the expected shape. No anaesthesia is required, and the procedure is completely pain free, and performed in my rooms. Usually three applications are needed, two weeks apart, to achieve the best results.

Treatment is best begun in the first or second week after birth while the cartilage is soft, and typically continues for six weeks.

What is Otoplasty?

We all have little imperfections that may cause us slight embarrassment. Otoplasty is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of prominent ears. Children with significantly prominent ears may become self-conscious and this may lead to lasting psychosocial stress. Otoplasty gives you less conspicuous ears and can therefore have a positive effect on self-esteem, academic- and social performance and confidence.

How is the surgery performed?

Otoplasty takes two hours and is performed under general anaesthesia.

What can I expect?
Recovery is two weeks and surgery is usually performed before school-going age.

EYE SURGERY

What is Blepharoplasty?
Over the years, a reduction in the production of collagen and elastin in the eyelids can result in unwelcome drooping eyelids. Because of the eyelid’s delicate and thin nature, it usually is the first sign of aging. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is the surgical procedure to enhance, tighten and rejuvenate the appearance of the eyelids for a more youthful appearance.

Both the upper and lower eyelids can be improved depending on your specific needs. Blepharoplasty can be combined with other surgical procedures such as a brow lift, face lift, neck lift or with lipofilling of the face. And with non-surgical treatments like Botox, Dermapen Collagen Induction Therapy or fillers for an overall rejuvenated appearance.

What can I expect?
Blepharoplasty is a very popular procedure which is performed under local anaesthesia with or without sedation. The procedure takes 60-90 minutes and recovery takes about two weeks.
